When YHWH speaks to our conscience, we should all listen carefully, even when we don't entirely know why He wants us to do something.
He speaks to the conscience of each of us, convicting us of those things that He sees will be a divider between us and our relationship with Him. Those things can differ for us, individually, as we all have a different level of understanding of the various things which are in our lives.
It is wonderful when the answers are clear and we are listening

Yes, He speaks shalom unto His people... Praise Yah! I have a testimony to share of what I believe Yahuwah our Elohim spoke to me when He began to call me out of Babylon. One of the things I believe I was told to do was to take my earrings out of my ears. Although I did not know why at that time, I did it anyway. Then to my amazement Genesis 35:2,4 was revealed to me! The same two verses you have included above under the Book of Genesis.
35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that [were] with him, Put away the strange gods that [are] among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
- 35:4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which [were] in their hand, and [all their] earrings which [were] in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which [was] by Shechem.
Pray without ceasing.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Quench not the Spirit - 1 Thessalonians 5:17-19
There might be a misconception that prayer means kneeling with hands clasped and reciting some perscribed liturgy, but if it were, could we be encouraged to "pray without ceasing"? Our daily lives should be an ongoing conversation with our Creator, keeping Him in our thoughts as our motivation for our actions, our guidance in decisions and our standard for how we measure ourselves. In so doing, we are always communicating with His Holy Spirit and thus we are praying.
Reading His word in communication with His Spirit is a great adventure. Before we take that step of letting His spirit do the talking while we take in His Word, we might find scripture reading difficult, confusing or boring because in our limited ability to simply read text and absorb a true spiritual message, we might end up reading a whole chapter and retaining very little to no meaning.
Learning to let go and allow Him to teach us (rather than attempting to introduce our own meaning to the text) brings that Word into three dimensional clarity and our hunger and interest for it grows. The amazing, limitless panorama that such a perspective brings to our lives far outshines the best video game, book or movie that was ever made. Though He does not expect our daily actions to include nothing more than reading, if we do as He said and put His Kingdom first in our lives, all other forms of fulfillment will naturally follow and His Word will come into our hearts and minds continuously as their relevance presents themselves.

I just want to do something fun that doesn't involve money. My whole project is Agrarian, meaning everything is provided. No need for money, electricity, supermarkets, or technology. Self sustainibility. I love to read the bible, but to me, any "religious" activity is boring. The stuff I once loved to do is boring because I have constantly been taught by mediocre preachers that nothing we do matters except sitting in prayer and doing nothing. That doesn't interest me because I wish to be active doing the things Jesus says do: being useful to others. Maybe I should join a monastery. Ever since I have started endeavoring in things I love to do, I feel much happier. There's a greater connection to Creator and Creation.
We can know who's speaking to us...His Word tells us how to test the spirits. Every spirit who confesses that Yahushua came in the flesh is of Elohim...that which doesn't, isn't
At times, He has spoken to people audibly...most of the time, we communicate with His "still, quiet voice" which calmly imparts thoughts to our minds. The voice of the enemy, in my experience is much louder and more desperate to get us obsessed on a thought, rather than the respect with which the voice of His Spirit speaks to us, allowing us the choice of heeding or ignoring. We usually really have to want to listen to hear Him...while the enemy does not like to let us forget their presence.
