It may be assumed widely that there is no reference to the custom of head shaping in scripture, but i would like to point out this section in Leviticus. Among a short list of things Israel was not to do, which were understood to be the customs of pagan nations, there is a mention of "rounding the corners" of the head. Perhaps not a topic which receives much thought when reading this section, most might conclude this has something to do with a hairstyle. The hair is never mentioned, but the…

Among a short list of things Israel was not to do, which were understood to be the customs of pagan nations, there is a mention of "rounding the corners" of the head. Perhaps not a topic which receives much thought when reading this section, most might conclude this has something to do with a hairstyle. The hair is never mentioned, but the head is particularly:

Ye shall not eat [any thing] with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.
Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I [am] the LORD. - Lev 19:26-28

the word from which "round" was translated is:

round - naqaph - to strike with violence, to knock together, ie. surround or circulate, compass about, destroy, go round, inclose.

which brings to mind the custom of forcefully shaping the head by means of a device which encloses it.

No doubt they are doing so to this day." (p.241)

It is very interesting that this continues to this day to be a tradition which has spiritual ties and one which is attached to an idea of beauty. there are many remains of skulls shaped like this that were never bound, but were naturally this way. people all over the world have recognized this look as being one which pertains to royalty or deity. "Nephilim: A History That Can't Be Ignored" shows some of these skulls and discusses the tradition of head shaping as well.
