That really is "in your face". We would probably never see anything so bare naked obvious in a cartoon made today. It's interesting to look back and see what would have been only subliminally suggestive in the past and realize just how much more refined this kind of promotion has to be now.
It's similar to the way "state of the art" special effects can end up looking fairly cheesy 20 years later.
great example of the 'we told you what we were doing, and you didn't believe us' comeback from the PTB...
i saw that episode when i was a kid, and the the only part that really stuck was the dark, horned Satan as an authority figure...
maybe intentional from the source, to remember the 'dark' Devil figure but only subconsciously catalog the 'light' (remember the pyramid lit up to alert them of the Dark one) pyramid eye..
I'd like to point out that Tom & Jerry clearly wanted no part of it!
